now is the time|

The Time Is Now

Now is the time
for all good people
to come to the aid of their planet

A wave so strong
has washed over me
commanding action

have you felt it too
calm isn’t indifference
or apathy
Is it resignation?
no
Is it surrender?
no
then it must be exhaustion
quite possibly sonow is the time
to recharge
rejuvenate
and continue the fight

it takes all of us
coming together
as one
and we have only just begun

miscommunication| a vignette|

Miscommunication
A Vignette

I

he asked her for her phone number
and she just laughed
he asked her if she wanted to have lunch
and she just laughed
he was offended and walked away

she laughed because she didn’t speak
English and he asked her in English
If she understood she would have given him
her phone number over lunch

II

She often thought about
what it would be like to be a soft
furry bunny rabbit
with a wiggly nose and
hop everywhere she went
She had so much energy
A vegetarian at 19
he often thought about
eating rabbit stew
with potatoes and carrots
but he never told her
because he didn’t want to fight
he wanted sex
and she didn’t tell him about
her bunny fantasy
because he was 10 years older than her
and he often laughed at her stories
she didn’t like to be teased
she shared her thoughts because
she wanted to feel close
he only laughed because he adored her

III

He didn’t get out much
he spent most of his free time
at home
on the internet
playing game apps
she lived not too far
down the street from him
she worked the night shift
he worked the day
she wrote some of the
apps he loved to play the most
they had so much in common
but the fickled finger of fate
raised it’s nasty middle finger at them
and they never met

best mindfulness poems| it’s just buddhism all over again|

It’s Just Buddhism All Over Again

There’s no time like the present
I was a child when I first heard this

Like the song says
I was so much older then/I’m younger than that now

I remember thinking
it meant I should do whatever it is first
to get it over with
so I could get to the business of having fun
all that really mattered to me
laughing, playing, reading, learning

Now the present time is where I want to be
All the time

the golden age
I was a child when I first heard this

Pretty sure I read it in a textbook in elementary
Or junior high – synonym for middle school
I thought it had something to do with
The talkies or the movie industry; or
maybe the Wright brothers and their marvelous flying machines

Now the golden age is something I would like to reach enlightenment

I gave my mom a plaque about 30 years ago
When she was my age now
with a picture of a willow
It hung in her hallway until she died
It said
I was an oak, now I’m a willow, I can bend

If I had a plaque with the same picture of a willow it would say
It’s just Buddhism All Over Again

that’s not what I wanted| a poem|

  1. That’s not what I wanted
  2. as if only she could pick and choose
  3. what came next in her life
  4. like sending back a plate of undesirable
  5. food
  6. a meal which she hadn’t ordered
  7. or maybe she had but it just wasn’t like
  8. what it looked like on the menu
  9. and maybe she could try again
  10. and order something differentl
  11. which she might enjoy instead; or
  12. like a pair of shoes that at first
  13. felt comfortable when trying on
  14. but after wearing
  15. for an hour or so
  16. after leaving the store
  17. you realized they really weren’t
  18. what you wanted after all
  19. and maybe you could exchange them
  20. for a more comfortable pair
  21. or a style more convenient
  22. that would serve you better
  23.  doesn’t that happen to you
  24. sometimes
  25. I know it happens to me
  26. Life isn’t that way though
  27. Is it
  28. You get what you get
  29. And you don’t have a fit
  30. As my son’s kindergarten teacher
  31. Aptly put
  32. Life is always filled with surprises
  33. she smiled and knew it may take awhile
  34. before it got better
  35. for now it wasn’t what she wanted
  36. but she would somehow continue to make things work
  37. after all things could always be better
  38. but then again things could always be much worse

my island| my love|

Calm warm rainbow-blue colored water

I want to indulge myself in all YOUR splendor
I admire your strength
As I stand alone along the shore
Like a lover
Longing for unrequited love
Seriously contemplating
Am I really an island unto myself
Squishy sand between my wriggling toes
I dig my heels and feel myself sink in
I feel your release
as you pull away from me
I wonder are you really teasing me
My knees begin to feel a little weak
I can feel the sun’s power beat down upon me
Needing you more now I feel myself drawn in
You and I are now one
How long will this last — does it ever really matter
Watching your waves come towards me
I ride you whenever I can
N
I
R
V
A
N
A
You are my Island of pleasure
My focus now is completely on YOU
I’m not sure if anyone else is around me
I can hear nothing but you
I stand there enthusiastically drinking you all in
I feel myself surrendering to your power
You feel so good
Against me
Wanting to take it further
Shall I swim deep into your cool water
I hold myself back
Knowing I might drown
Like a siren you call out to me
As I return and wait patiently on the beach
Still remembering how good you felt
Splashing and thrusting emphatically on my hot naked skin
Your sun now penetrates me so deeply
The warm breeze euphoria against my skin
Crashing waves along the shoreline
Taunting me as you try to lure me back in
Seagulls cry out to me
Asking “What are you waiting for?”
Wearing nothing but slathered  on sunscreen
As I lay atop my beach towel
I close my eyes and celebrate my own power
Like you, my strength surpasses me
You awake such passion within me
You are my Island, my Love
